Plus: The best books of 2023
| | Time to put down your phone and pick up a book |
| Finally summer is here, and it's time to pause the endless to-do lists and instead rest, rewind and replenish. If you are looking for something to read, our literary colleagues have rounded up the best new book releases in 2023.There's everything from a Booker Prize winner to an "almanac of extreme girlhood" and an addition to the newly christened "bunker and billionaire" fiction genre. Happy reading! Acclaimed author Charlotte Wood's new Stone Yard Devotional is one novel not to be missed. It tells of a woman searching for meaning when everything around her seems to be falling apart. She retreats to a cabin in a religious community located outside of her hometown, and slowly begins to return to life. The book explores the tension between two contrasting ideas: whether it's more ethical to live a life of contemplation or a life of action. And Wood's inspiration for the book is just as thought-provoking. Read more about it here. Of course, you can listen to Radio National all summer long too. Catch up on some of this year's RN highlights including Take me to Your Leader, Dig: Save the Franklin and Unravel: Firebomb, and listen to new episodes of Days Like These, If You're Listening and Return Ticket. The full schedule is here. And look out for our best-of-2023 newsletters that will showcase much of the excellent RN audio and digital content from this year. It will be rolling out over the next few weeks. Have a great summer, Alexandra Spring, acting digital editor Enjoy getting ABC RN in your inbox? Invite your friends to sign up too! |
