Since that first class she has taken many others in the area, and has begun working in oils as well, painting interiors, figures, and portraits

The Order of Chaos

Location Name: Comics N' More
Address: 31 Union Street,
City/Town: Easthampton
Website: www.facebook.com/events/968510009880318/

The first series Sjostedt created exclusively with materials provided by a location hosting his exhibit. All source materials - comic books from the 1970s through 1990s - are from Comics N' More's collection. "Comic book art is so over the top," said Sjostedt. "But my new direction is sparse and precise. I liked the exercise of using chaotic source material to create work with fewer elements, yet maintaining the melodramatic characteristics of this medium."

End Date: December 30, 2015
Location Name: Hosmer Gallery, Forbes Library
Address: 20 West Street
City/Town: Northampton

Making art long ago became second nature to photographer Jim Schlessinger. He writes: "it's as natural as breathing. My work is a visual diary, not of where I've been, but of what I've been thinking. Reflections considered... metaphors evoked. The recognition of a photograph waiting to be made can seem something like deja vu, when form and content conspire to speak to something partially buried in my subconscious, and all the more meaningful to me."

While incorporating mix materials of clay, print, fabric, photo and found object, 'Within Reach' is inspired by wisdom traditions, perhaps universal, along a pathless path.

Class Location: Mount Holyoke College, Art Building
Address: 50 College Street

This is a studio art course that enables artists to deepen how 'seeing' nature translates to a flat surface, while maintaining the illusion of depth. Coupled with exploring paint, or oil crayon, emphasis rests on expanding drawing skills through formal visual problems presented. Artists learn through each others' solutions, in group critiques, as well individual instruction. Formal compositional problems focus on where objects rhythmically move in relationship-proximity.
