The title of this exhibition comes from the final line of a poem by Laura Gilpin, and the theme is made manifest in layers of time and material: paint, wax, rope, wood, paper, glass. The result is a show that evokes experiences not entirely comprehended, and emotions deeply felt, that fade, then return, and then sometimes fade again, creating works of art.

All source materials - comic books from the 1970s through 1990s - are from Comics N' More's collection. "Comic book art is so over the top," said Sjostedt. "But my new direction is sparse and precise. I liked the exercise of using chaotic source material to create work with fewer elements, yet maintaining the melodramatic characteristics of this medium." DJ Just Joan will spin "psychedelic spy" music during the opening reception.

I am inspired to paint and driven to tell a story or record a period of time visually. The themes in my work are of personal, political and universal topics. I favor watercolors and tend to over work them. I obsess over the paint as much as I obsess over my subject matter! Please join me for a little celebration with music, food and art!

Q's art has evolved from her exposure in the East and life in Western Mass. Her inherited traditions reach back in time to vistas of misty mountains and glimpses of rain-soaked lotuses. Yet, her New England years have infused her with a second nature of maple-lined roads, lichened stone walls and weathered barns. Now she is further on her path of Zen and Tao (Taoism). Her lines get simpler and strokes more expressive. The media are mineral color, rice paper or canvas.

Address: 50 College Street

This is a studio art course that enables artists to deepen how 'seeing' nature translates to a flat surface, while maintaining the illusion of depth. Coupled with exploring paint, or oil crayon, emphasis rests on expanding drawing skills through formal visual problems presented. Artists learn through each others' solutions, in group critiques, as well individual instruction. Formal compositional problems focus on where objects rhythmically move in relationship-proximity.
