Apple's Vision Pro a boon for AR/VR market, new data suggests
Fresh data suggests Apple’s new Vision Pro headset will help to push sales of mixed-reality headsets across the entire augmented/virtual-reality market
Shipments for AR/VR "mixed-reality" headsets declined 23.5% in 2023, research firm IDC said on Tuesday, but this year is shaping up to be one of recovery as shipments are forecast to surge 44.2% to 9.7 million units. IDC suggested that Apple's Vision Pro, as well as headset launches by other companies in the coming months, will help to boost growth as economic conditions improve globally. "Apple's launch of the Vision Pro grabbed a lot of headlines and has raised awareness for AR and VR, and although it's priced out of reach for most, it is helping raise the bar for competitors," IDC's Jitesh Ubrani said. "Along with Apple, many companies such as Meta and others have already begun their journey, transitioning from VR to Mixed Reality, ultimately laying the groundwork for true AR experiences"... |

It was released in June 2023, just a few months before Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Going forward, any Activision Blizzard title seems like fair game for Microsoft’s subscription service ... |
