Dear reader, Yorkville is one of Toronto’s ritziest neighbourhoods—crawling with conspicuously consumed sports cars, people purchasing designer brands with other people’s money and celebrities stumbling back to their hotels. And if you don’t care for any of that, it’s actually still a great place to be.
I came to love it as an undergrad at U of T. After enduring a lecture that I would later pretend to have understood, I’d dart through Victoria College’s Harry Potter–esquecampus en route to the Manulife Centre's Varsity cinemas, where I’d watch an art house film with my friends (which I’d also later pretend to have understood). Then, armed with LCBO bags full of Stiegls, we’d grab some patties and Belmonts at the convenience store on Bellair and perch ourselves atop the Yorkville Rock before stumbling back home by way of Bay station. Ah, the beauty of aimless youth. My point is that if you enjoy luxury boutiques, gawk-worthy condos and $20 bomboloni, you’ll be at home in Yorkville—but the neighbourhood has so much going on that it can satisfy residents from all walks of life. Just consider Curb Appeal’s top post this week: a 2,300-square-foot ’80s condo right on Bay with valet service, oak and walnut all over, and access to a suite of high-end amenities. It’s also close to parks and transit as well as tons of great Asian mom-and-pop restaurants. And on its ground floor, it houses one of Toronto’s top destinations for cinephiles, Bay Street Video.
Also in today’s newsletter: an Edwardian in High Park with a fireplace flown in from France. Plus, $5.9 million for an environmentally friendly bunker in North York. For all of our real estate coverage and more, visit torontolife.com or subscribe to our print edition. |

A two-plus-one-bedroom, two-bathroom 11th-storey Yorkville unit overlooking bustling Bay. Recently renovated, the home comes with two parking spots and a buffet of shared amenities. It’s within walking distance of U of T, the ROM, the Manulife Centre and, most conveniently, half a dozen subway stations. And motorists are a short drive from both Davenport and the DVP. |
