The Next Frontier for Irish Whiskey? Embracing the Peat.

Irish whiskey was once the most popular whiskey style in the world. That’s a fairly well-known fact. Less known is that the country has a long history of making peated expressions; while certainly not as popular today, one estimate suggests a revival of that smokier style has led to around 80 peated Irish whiskeys currently on the market. As Emily Cappiello reports, there’s good reason for the peated Irish whiskey resurgence — and some concerns that it could be over nearly as soon as it starts (translation: Pick up a bottle of Connemara, Waterford Peated or Bart’s while you can).
