Plus: Plus: David Bowie, Kylie Minogue and Paul McCartney in their most unguarded moments
| | Uncle Wes Marne celebrated his 100th birthday this year. The Bigambul man says living on Country in south-west Queensland was one of the happiest times of his life. But when he was a kid, he wasn't allowed to live there, speak his language, or practice his culture. For Word Up this week, he shares some of the Bigambul words that he learnt from the stories of his old people. You can hear this episode of Word Up among a curated collection of other stories from Indigenous Australia on the ABC listen app. Just look for the heading Reconciliation Week. Then find out what happened when a plant genetics conference shared its line-up of speakers from around the world – and found itself caught up in a storm of protest on Twitter. In the wake of the controversy, the event was postponed, and critics say Australian science has been put "on notice" to be more inclusive. Read more in this story from Science Friction. Plus – why re-read a book that you've read before? It could represent a return to pleasure, a wrestle with meaning, or a test to see whether it still stands up. Listen in as the Bookshelf's Kate Evans explores this terrain with a panel of authors at the Sydney Writers Festival.
