Known for her bold autobiographical paintings, Beverly McIver invites viewers into her personal story, exploring themes of family and African-American identity.

The Game Changers: Diebenkorn, Frankenthaler, and Rauschenberg

March 20 - October 5, 2025

Helen Frankenthaler, Richard Diebenkorn, and Robert Rauschenberg created essential works in the mid-20th century, forever changing what American art would look like and what it could mean to us.

The Game Changers exhibition expands viewers’ appreciation of prints in the permanent collection with the generous inclusion of works by Frankenthaler, Diebenkorn, Rauschenberg, and their contemporaries from renowned American museum collections.

We Belong Here: The Gutierrez Collection

We Belong Here: The Gutierrez Collection is the first public exhibition of contemporary art collected over the past decade by North Carolina collectors Onay Gutierrez and Jeff Childers. In their words: “The Gutierrez Collection creates a space for dialogue and understanding across diverse identities and perspectives.”

Featuring over 40 works by international contemporary artists, it focuses on 21st-century pieces that engage with social, political, cultural, and personal issues.

Discover the freedom of working with one of art’s most forgiving and expressive traditional mediums: charcoal. Perfect for loose sketching, polished drawings, or bold mixed-media work, charcoal moves easily from deep, rich blacks to the softest grays, offering a wide range of expressive possibilities. It invites bold marks, erasing, and constant reworking. Minimal supply purchase is required—studio materials will be available for experimentation.

WOMEN IN ART HISTORY: LECTURE – TAKING UP SPACE: CAMILLE CLAUDEL TO MAYA LIN

Explore the vital contributions women have made to Western art history, often overlooked, excluded, or positioned behind male-led movements. This course will examine the systemic barriers that kept many women out of the art world and traditional art history surveys, while highlighting the goals, achievements, and lasting impact of visionary women artists.
