Join us in the Pancoe Education Building as we read How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace and Andy Elkerton.

After the reading, participants will create a story-inspired craft. This is a great opportunity for the whole family!

Mary's Art Explorers is geared towards infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, but big brothers and sisters are welcome to join and create art with us. Your registration includes admission to the museum for the whole day.

Join us for CAM After Dark with CAM’s former executive director Anne Brennan as she leads an insightful tour inside the Elisabeth Chant exhibition.

Elisabeth Chant’s independent spirit and dedication to art is evident in her many actions to establish the arts in mid-century Wilmington. Brennan will explore selected works in the exhibition and share stories illuminating the artist’s unique lifestyle. Learn about her dedication to teaching and painterly landscapes in this special walk through the exhibition.

Elisabeth Chant

Elisabeth Chant (February 7, 2025 – April 27, 2025)

North Carolina artist Elisabeth Chant (1865-1947) made an indelible mark on Wilmington’s art community. She became known for her vibrant landscapes and scenes of the North Carolina coast. Chant also created decorative designs and explored mysticism and spiritual themes, which informed her artistic style. She was instrumental in developing Wilmington’s cultural landscape, founding art classes, mentoring young artists, and establishing a community art association.

This exhibition explores the people and landscapes of Chant’s world.

We Belong Here: The Gutierrez Collection is the first public exhibition of contemporary art collected over the past decade by North Carolina collectors Onay Gutierrez and Jeff Childers. In their words: “The Gutierrez Collection creates a space for dialogue and understanding across diverse identities and perspectives.”

Featuring over 40 works by international contemporary artists, it focuses on 21st-century pieces that engage with social, political, cultural, and personal issues.

COLOR 101: THE POST-IMPRESSIONIST STILL LIFE

Ready for some fun color and expressive still lifes? Let's take a page from the post-Impressionists, (think Matisse, Van Gogh, Cezanne, for starters), and expand our color language in expressive ways. With the still life as our subject and inspiration, students will build confidence in brush-handling and dynamic color and compositions. Beginner (with basic painting familiarity) to advanced. All painting mediums welcome.

FOLK PAINTINGS

Instructor: Judith Chandler

Peasant Painting is a Chinese art style of compositions created with repeated shapes and bright colors depicting scenes of everyday life. A few examples are The Painter and the Toy Vendor. In this workshop, we will draw simple shapes of people, places, animals, and objects illustrating life today. We will paint with gouache or other water-based paint you provide. The final work will be 12" x 18" on watercolor paper.
