Energy realism this past week honed in on exactly what could be coming for energy and climate policies under a Biden administration.

To set the background, James W. Noe & Meghan E. Smith offer an informative piece on climate priorities as expected under new leadership. The lawyers see a return to the Obama years, with methane regulations on the oil and gas industry and a return to higher vehicle efficiency standards being the most obvious. Yet our Senior Fellow Rupert Darwall has a stern warning about Joe Biden’s net-zero goals. Put simply, net-zero is incompatible with federalism and the separation of powers, ultimately even threatening the Constitution.

Daniel Turner gives another sobering look at the dangers that we could see. From what has been proposed, life will become expensive in America, our enemies will become richer, Iran will sponsor more terrorism, China will dominate America’s energy security, and the likelihood of war will increase. Joel Kotkin also has some warnings and much-needed advice. Make no mistake: the green end game is likely to produce is an increasingly static and hierarchical society.
