Ok - before we dive into anything else for this week: a HUGE apology for the techinical problems we experienced for at least last week and spordically weeks prior. Without question - our contest entry form somehow "broke down" last Thursday - after we'd tested the forms prior to sending out the e-mail.Â Thank you for your feedback and patience; we finally got the contest forms ironed out midday Friday. Onward and upward!

Is this now the part of the newsletter where yours truly may complain about the cold/dreary weather here locally? True - we do not have it anywhere NEAR as bad as others throughout the country.Â Nonetheless - we are pretty much ready for at least spring, here at Reader Rewards. I'm sure we ALL look forward to days where we can head down to the oceanfront to enjoy warmer weather and a cool breeze.Â Did it surprise anyone else to read earlier this week that the 17-story highrise apartment building down there is nearly complete?Â Check it out here if you somehow missed it.

By the time spring and warmer weather rolls around - hopefully we will be another significant step down the path of coronavirus vaccination distribution. Fortunately The Pilot's Elisha Sauers covered how exactly to get on vaccine waiting list.Â If you missed it: check it out here!Â We're coming up on a full year since COVID-19 fully hit Hampton Roads and turned all our lives upside down.Â It's been a long journey for sure - hopefully just a bit more patience and adhering to those three guidelines!

Speaking of a long journey - just before pushing out this newsletter,Â NASA's Perseverance rover successfully landed on Mars.Â Completing a 300 million mile journey.Â Yikes.

For more than a century, people have known very little about the famous Norfolk spy, Mary Louveste. In 1861 or 1862, Louveste took information from the Confederate Navy about its ironclad ship the USS Virginia. Louveste gave the information to the Union. People have written books and news articles using that basic information and filled the gaps with fiction. A few local historians and educators, however, have been searching for more information on Mary Louveste and have found a more complete and complex story.

Scientists haven't yet determined whether the vaccines circulating in the United States prevent people from spreading the coronavirus to others who arenât vaccinated. The issue came up during a news conference Wednesday, where Gov. Ralph Northam, Virginia's veritable doctor-in-chief, said that mystery is one reason why he's not in any rush to lift pandemic-related restrictions for gathering sizes and masks, even as vaccinated Virginians increase.Â
