PHOTO OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH
Mirror image big mouth

We love foxes — and so, apparently, do you! These charismatic canids pop up all the time in submissions to our Photo Club, and our social media followers always enjoy seeing snaps of their many moods and poses. What’s actually going on in this action-packed image taken by St. Clair MacAuley in Charlottetown, P.E.I.? It looks like the foxes are fighting — and red foxes will get aggressive with one another, especially during mating season — but MacAuley says in this case they were just playing. Show us what home means to you for a chance to win cash

Community relocations are part of the story of what has and continues to shape Canada as a country. As part of our educational project on relocations in Canada, we want to know: what does home mean to you? We’re looking for photographs that capture your personal concept of home, be it the house you grew up in, a place you visit when you need to rest and recharge, a landmark that makes your community unique, or a person who represents comfort, hope and identity. In this uncertain time of social and physical distancing amid a global pandemic, home has become even more important. It’s not just where we spend most of our time; it’s where we find safety, balance, creativity and, hopefully, joy. Submit an image and tell us the story behind it for a chance to win one of three cash prizes, including the grand prize of $1,000.

Announcing the winners of the 2019 Canadian Wildlife Photography of the Year Competition

A Canada lynx kitten stares intently over the top of a snowbank, surveying its surroundings. A northern pygmy-owl seems to frown amid a whirl of snowflakes. An underwater pillar decorated with sea stars, anemones and urchins rises toward the dim glow of the surface. Canada’s biodiversity is breathtaking in its beauty and variety, but it’s also vulnerable to climate change and the encroachment of human activities on critical habitat. The 20 winning photos of Canadian Geographic’s 2019 Canadian Wildlife Photography of the Year Competition, hosted in partnership with the Canadian Museum of Nature, offer us an intimate glimpse at the often secretive lives of animals, and serve as a reminder that nature in all its forms is worth protecting.
