After leaving MLSE to found Oak View Group, which builds and runs big venues around the world, Leiweke has returned to the GTHA. M. J. Shimaka, 25, earns $40,000 per year from wages plus $12,000 in tips and $4,000 from artistic projects. She pays $1,180 a month for her portion of a three-bedroom apartment in Forest Hill North, which she shares with two roommates. Shimaka is currently saving $25 a month for a trip to Kenya to connect with her roots. “It’s not much, but it’s starting to add up,” she says.

CANADA’S FIRST “RAINBOW REGISTERED” RENTAL FOR QUEER PEOPLE IS COMING TO MIDTOWN

Toronto’s real estate industry has announced a first for the queer community. The city is now home to Canada’s first Rainbow Registered residential rental, a new complex from Hazelview Properties near Yonge and Eglinton. Created by Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce, the Rainbow accreditation means that future residents, employees and partners will be trained to ensure that everyone—regardless of identity—feels welcome.
