Breaking down Thursday's loss to the Cowboys
The return of Taysom Hill at quarterback did little to help the Saints’ cause on Thursday night in New Orleans. With a 27-17 loss to the Cowboys, the Saints have now dropped five consecutive games. Hill, who injured the middle finger on his throwing hand early in the game, threw four interceptions as the Saints played from behind for much of the contest. He did show that his injured foot won’t limit him much on the ground with 11 carries for 101 yards, but the Saints’ offense proved predictable in the second half. Also, Hill’s passes seemed to be more poorly placed as the game went on. It was the first four-interception game for the Saints since 2012. With five games remaining on the slate, Sean Payton will somehow have to orchestrate a remarkable turnaround on offense in the coming weeks. It’s becoming harder and harder to find a way for this team to reach the playoffs, and it’s understandable why they've fallen so fast, so quickly. It can’t be overstated how difficult the injury situation has been for the Saints this season. The Saints have a relatively easy slate down the stretch, but they first have to find a way to create momentum for themselves. They appear to be in a free fall at the moment. - Patrick Magee |
