Lot 36 - Laurence Stephen Lowry (British, 1887-1976), The Beach, signed in pencil in the margin lower right, print, 26cm x 50.5cm Estimate: £2,000 - £3,000 We are delighted to announce the timed Modern Fine Art and Decorative Arts Auction is live!
Our small but perfectly formed sale includes a signed print by one of the most famous English artists, Laurence Stephen Lowry (Pictured above). The charming beach scene is likely to be one of Lowry's holidays in Sunderland, as a child.
Also in the auction is a collection of beautiful stained glass pieces by Jane Gray ARCA, FMGP (b.1931). Gray studied at the Kingston School of Art, Surrey and later worked as an assistant to the Head of Stained Glass, Lawrence Stanley Lee, at the Royal College of Art. She worked with Lee on ten stained glass windows for the new Coventry Cathedral. This six-year-long design project culminated in their final installation in 1962 after the cathedral’s consecration.
