According to researchers, dogs' facial muscles have changed over a millennium through evolution to better communicate emotions, be more appealing and even manipulate their owners. The study, presented at the Experimental Biology 2022 meeting, found that dogs' faces contain significantly more fast-twitch muscle fibers than their wolf descendants, which makes it easier for dogs to quickly convey emotion through facial expressions.
