When I used to visit my parents at their cottage in the summer, they got their corn from old farmer Fred, who worked the land around their place until the developers were ready to plant houses. I once asked him what the best way to cook corn was; he said "put a big pot of water on to boil. Then go out and pick the corn." He claimed that every minute counted. But as Melissa notes, corn isn't the same anymore. All we can get is the "Peaches 'n Cream" that she calls bi-color and that we call too sweet and bland, bred to last a long time and taste like candy. I miss old Fred's corn.
