Biden uses an executive order to open federal sites for AI

β€Š

One of Biden's last executive orders pushes for AI data center construction as part of efforts to ensure the U.S. remains a leader in the technologyΒ

β€Š

President Biden signed an executive order to boost AI infrastructure by opening federal lands for data centers and clean energy projects, Digital Trends reported. The Department of Energy and the Department of Defense are to each find potential sites within their holdings for new AI data centers before running a competitive bidding process involving prospective builders.

The order, which comes in the final days of Biden’s presidency, addresses the surging power demands from AI data centers, which have tripled electricity usage in the past decade. In a statement, Biden emphasized AI’s potential for societal benefits while maintaining environmental standards. The initiative also aims to secure U.S. leadership in AI amid global competition, especially with China ...

Sansui builds on its OLED TV line with new sizes, and adds new AI gaming monitor

β€Š

Sansui made a surprise entry back into the U.S. market last fall with the release of its 55-inch OLED β€” the least expensive OLED on the market. At hundreds less than competitors from LG, Samsung, and Sony, the company made waves when it came out. We had a sample in our test lab for an unboxing and were impressed with what we saw. Now at CES, the company is expanding the line to three sizes β€” 55-, 65-, and 77-inch models ...

The Astropad Bookcase turns your smartphone into an e-reader

β€Š

The device gives you a pseudo e-reader experience for your iPhone or Android phone

β€Š

This rather unusual device from Astropad is called the Bookcase, and it’s supposed to make your smartphone feel like an e-reader. Digital Trends has recently been hands-on with it, and commended its ergonomic feel when using reading apps.

The Bookcase has a magnetic attachment that adds plastic handles to the side of your phone, making it about as wide as an average paperback book. It uses MagSafe to attach to an iPhone, while a conversion kit is supplied for Android handsets. To try to ensure a distraction-free reading experience like you get with an e-reader, Astropad has designed the Bookcase to temporarily turn off interruptions such as notifications ...

These are the best audio products of CES 2025

β€Š

CES might not be an audio-focused tech event, but there were still lots of such products to enjoy

β€Š

The recent CES show in Las Vegas was packed with an array of fabulous audio products, and Digital Trends has picked out 10 that really grabbed the attention.

Notable finds included the Dali IO-8 headphones, which offer a gorgeous and full sound, as well as a comfortable fit. And check out the results of the first fully integrated collaboration between Focal and Naim, which allows for built-in streamed content from Tidal, Qobuz, and Spotify. Audio specialist Onkyo also showed up with something fresh in the form of some impressive powered desktop speakers, while Dynaudio’s first soundbar is surely one of the most innovative single-speaker home theater solutions yet ...

Wolf Man is destined to win the weekend box office

β€Š

It's time for a werewolf movie

β€Š

Newcomer Wolf Man, a horror flick directed by Leigh Whannell (Upgrade, The Invisible Man) and starring Julia Garner, Chirstopher Abbott, and Sam Jaeger, looks like a surefire winner at movie theaters this weekend, with Boxoffice Pro forecasting revenue of up to $20 million in North America. As per the movie's logline: β€œA family at a remote farmhouse is attacked by an unseen animal, but as the night stretches on, the father begins to transform into something unrecognizable.”

On its second outing, Den of Thieves 2 is expected to place second with ticket sales totaling up to $8 million, while Mufasa: The Lion King, still a strong family favorite, looks set to land third β€” though Dog Man will soon be yapping at its heels when it comes out at the end of this month ...

β€Š

... including the absence of one of the biggest indie games of the year

β€Š

The nominees for the coveted Seamus McNally Grand Prize at the 27th Annual Independent Games Festival do include UFO 50 and Thank Goodness You're Here, but a huge surprise is that Balatro failed to make the final cut, Digital Trends reported. Taking place at the Game Developers Conference between March 17 and 21, the show celebrates independent games and often nominates unexpected deep cuts and upcoming games that go on to become critical darlings.

This year, six games are up for the Seamus McNally Grand Prize: Caves of Qud, Consume Me, Despelote, Indika, Thank Goodness You're Here, and UFO 50. Read on for the full list of nominees across all of the categories ...
