Hi
The fun of freely making art and getting lost in the spirit of creating is a fundamental human gift. As our culture drifts towards the slick headlines and glossy illustrations of high tech, humble scribbly marks, wild paint drips, wobbly paths, overgrown plants, and visible mending are ever more important reminders of our humanity. Imperfection☡ show that there are PEOPLE behind the work. In the studio this week I've been messing around with materials and enjoyed painting with totally-not-in-my-control-feather. Would you like to join me in some fun, imperfect art making? This playful art prompt works for all ages. You'll need: A feather Thin paint like India ink (watch out with little kids because it stains), food coloring, thinned tempera/poster paint, or liquid watercolors PaperPlay music. Dip the feather in the paint and follow your instincts. Allow yourself to play. Experiment ideas: Make broad strokes or tiny dots. Use different parts of the feather to achieve a variety of marks. Press lightly or hard. Use a lot of ink or let the feather get dry and dusty. Move quickly or deliberately. Let me know how it goes! By the way, I'm ALSO having a lot of fun with email, and considering sending out different sets of emails: one for folks who make art with kids, and another for anyone interested in ideas that fuel a creative life for themselves. I would love to know which interests YOU? Would you click one or both of the buttons below so I can be sure to send you things you're interested in?
Thanks! I so appreciate it. Take flight with your art,
