| July 20, 2022 Hey traders! It's Michael here with the BRAND NEW Stock Dork Premarket Report, your go-to guide for the day's biggest trading news and hottest premarket stocks! Today is Wednesday, July 20th. Let's get ready to trade! |
The S&P 500 rallied 2.8% on Tuesday as US indexes broke out across the board. The Nasdaq added 3.1% on the day, and the Dow gained 2.4%. The small-cap Russell 2K jumped 3.5%. Today, futures are wavering ahead of today's opening bell. S&P 500 contracts are down 0.1%. Netflix [NFLX] - Last Close: $201.63 Netflix is climbing higher after a Tuesday-evening earnings report. The streaming company reported its second-quarter results yesterday evening, and the market seems to be happy with the results. Netflix earned $3.20 per share on revenues of $7.97 billion in Q2. The numbers beat the Street's EPS target of $2.94 but missed the consensus revenue estimate of $8.03 billion. The company also reported a smaller-than-expected subscriber loss and said it hopes to return to growth in the third quarter. Netflix also says it will continue its efforts to implement a paid accounting sharing options for subscribers and a lower-priced subscription tier with ads, which it hopes will boost revenues. NFLX is one of the top S&P 500 stocks with a 6.0% gain. Our Take: Netflix has had such a rough run that it's starting to look like a value stock. Its P/E ratio has fallen to just 18.87, and the chart shows some hints that the stock's decline may have bottomed out. Omnicom Group [OMC] - Last Close: $67.41 Omnicom's latest earnings report is boosting shares in today's premarket. The marketing firm is trending after posting a double-line beat on its Q2 earnings results. Omnicom earned $1.68 per share on revenues of $3.57 billion, beating the Street's target of $1.58 EPS on $3.47 billion in sales. Overall, the company posted an organic growth rate of 11%. OMC is also one of the top performers in the S&P 500 this morning with a 7.3% gain on active trading volume. Our Take: Omnicom's results are encouraging, but marketing budgets are one of the first things that get cut when corporate profits take a downturn. If you think a recession is in the cards, Omnicom is likely to feel the sting at some point. Stronghold Digital [SDIG] - Last Close: $2.14 Stronghold Digital is pushing higher as crypto stocks heat up. SGIG and several other crypto mining stocks have been surging after a story Tuesday attracted the market's attention to the sector. Applied Blockchain skyrocketed 100% on Tuesday after the company announced a 200-megawatt five-year supply deal with Marathon Digital, which I covered in yesterday's report. The story seemed to have sparked a wave of interest in the sector, and we've seen several related stocks moving higher in the after-hours and premarket trading sessions. Currently, Stronghold Digital is leading the push. The crypto mining stock is one of today's top performers with a 31.3% gain on active trading volume. Our Take:This move has all the hallmarks of a short squeeze. SDIG's short ratio is at a whopping 10.3%, and traders are seizing the opportunity to bust the shorts after the Applied Blockchain story sparked a buzz around the sector. Greenlane Holdings [GNLN] - Last Close: $0.1942 Greenlane Holdings is surging on news of a major asset sale. The cannabis company announced Tuesday evening that it had sold its stake in VIBES Holdings in a $5.3 million deal. Greenlane retained the distribution rights to VIBES' products, and the two companies will remain strategic partners. The company says the sale is part of its ongoing strategy to sufficiently capitalize the business and push its way to profitability. GNLN is one of today's most active stocks, and it's up 18.5%. Our Take:The cannabis sector is a tough place to make a buck, but Greenlane looks like it has a plan. It has a relatively high short ratio of 4.81%, which could be accelerating today's rally. |
