Dear friends and fellow art enthusiasts,

 

Greetings from Tokyo where the leaves are starting to turn and there is a crisp autumn breeze in the air. We are also finally seeing a bit of most-welcome sunshine after a super rainy summer. Let’s hope it stays this way!

 

The big news for fall is that TokyoDex will be curating this year’s “ROPPONGI ART NIGHT CAFE, supported by Seibu & Sogo” with special programs on 10/21 and 10/22. If you are in Tokyo and don’t know about Roppongi Art Night (RAN), you have been missing out! RAN is Japan’s biggest art party, and this year it has been extended from one night to two full days of programing across multiple venues in the Roppongi area. Our programs will be taking place in the HILLS CAFE / SPACE, the café/event space right across from the Mori Art Museum entrance.

 

We kick off pre-events with live painting in the café from 10/18 through 10/22, then host an opening party with an eclectic array of East-meets-West performances under the theme “Onkochishin,” a Japanese saying that describes the concept of reexamining the past to create something new.

 

On Saturday morning, we continue with hands-on workshops from illustrator Mariya Suzuki and Calligrapher Mami. In the evening there will be two special performances, “From Rio to Tokyo” and a live Bonsai performance by artist Masashi Hirao. Then from 11pm to 5am, we party till dawn with a formidable cast of DJs and performers that include JWave’s DJ Taro as well as multiple heavy hitters from the Tokyo club scene.  

 

So basically, Team TokyoDex doesn’t plan to sleep for a couple of days. Care to join us? All programs have free admission except the workshops which are only 500 yen to join!
