Professor of pediatrics says that kids should be banned from getting tattoos but can have sex-change treatments if they want them

Professor and pediatrician at Seattle Children's Hospital Dr. Cora Breuner was commenting on a particular case when she said there should be laws that prevent children from getting tattoos. Dr. Breuner has previously said that kids should be allowed to receive sex-chaging treatments if they want them.

The case she was referring to involves New York woman Crystal Thomas, who was arrested after she allowed her 10-year-old-son to get a tattoo. Dr. Breuner said that children under the age of 18 don’t have the agency to adequately make a decision about placing a permanent mark on their body and that there should be laws to prevent them from doing so.

In 2018 Dr. Breuner signed an American Academy of Pediatrics statement that endorsed “non-reversible” gender-affirming treatments for children.

Statistics show that many young people who used drugs or had surgery to change their gender ended up regretting those decisions later and frequently speak out against having such severe medical procedures performed at a young age.
