His sick wife asked him to kill her. A caregiver shares his journey.

Dave Cook had little support while providing care for his wife, Pat, at home while she was dying. He retired to take care of her in 2018. When she developed lymphedema she became "virtually immobile." She had developed open sores and he had to administer pain medication despite having hospice care. Her pain was so great that she asked him to kill her, more than once. She died in December 2024. He is shown with his dogs Bucky, left, and Mickey on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in Racine, Wisconsin.

David Cook's wife, Patricia Cook, died in September. He was her caregiver for nearly a decade before she died.
