All good things, as they say...

After 12 years of helming UtahPolicy.com, my time here has come to an end. After I push send for today's newsletter, my time as managing editor of this fine publication ends.

I'm proud of what we've been able to accomplish in the last 10 plus years. Bob Bernick and I have broken hundreds of stories and set the agenda for political reporting in the state. The past few years working with Bob was the most fun I've ever had professionally, and I'll miss that collaboration.

It's immensely gratifying to hear from our readers how much they valued our reporting. I poured my heart and soul into this effort, waking before the sun came up, not closing my laptop until late at night, routinely operating on 4-5 hours of sleep. For me, it was a seven day a week endeavor. I can only hope you enjoyed reading the fruits of my labor as much as I loved doing the work.

I am grateful to LaVarr Webb, who approached me in March of 2008 when I was working at a local public radio station, to ask if I was interested in heading up his digital publication. I didn't know what I was getting into, but I did know that this was the new frontier of journalism. It was a risk, but also an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I wish him the best as he moves this fine publication to the Deseret News.

Next week I begin the next chapter of my career with the Salt Lake Tribune. It's another opportunity to help build something from the ground up, and I can't wait to get started.

1609 - Henry Hudson discovers Delaware Bay.

1862 - Second Battle of Bull Run, also known as the Battle of Second Manassas begins. The battle ends on August 30.

1898 - Caleb Bradham's beverage "Brad's Drink" is renamed "Pepsi-Cola."

1955 - Black teenager Emmett Till is brutally murdered in Mississippi for supposedly flirting with a white woman four days earlier. His alleged killers were acquitted.
