| | May 9, 2022 Authorities in Goodhue County today announced the arrest of a woman they say is the mother of two newborn babies found dead in the Mississippi River in 1999 and 2003. Fifty-year-old Jennifer Matter is charged with second-degree murder in the 2003 case, in which a newborn baby boy was found along the shore of the river at Lake Pepin.
Officials say another round of DNA testing and genetic genealogy was used to locate Matter, who was arrested and charged earlier today. Goodhue County Sheriff Marty Kelly said the deaths had haunted the county and local law enforcement officers for years. Officials said donations from the community helped pay for the renewed DNA testing in the case. Subscribe to our Minnesota Today podcast to get up-to-date Minnesota news twice daily. | |
