A bit more than three hours north of San Francisco, across a ruggedly picturesque bay from the tiny coastal California community of Mendocino, Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann once owned a property of immense beauty and favorable siting on a high bluff above the Pacific Ocean. Sold by the musician in 2001 and owned by the same family since, the thickly wooded five-acre spread is now available for just under $4 million. The advantageously sequestered estate has two wood- and stone-built homes, each with two-bedrooms and two bathrooms. The homes are connected by a bridge on the upper level that houses a shared lounge for relaxing and entertaining. Farther south, in the Coldwater Canyon area of Beverly Hills, a beloved restaurant family whose popular international eateries are collectively known as the House of An has put a $5.6 million price tag on a thoroughly updated 1950s chateau-inspired residence owned by family members since the mid-1990s.
