TRB Webinar: Asphalt KillersFatigue , Formulation, and Old Age in Binders

The fatigue performance of asphalt pavements is commonly blamed on structural design. TRB will host a webinar on Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 1:00-2:30 PM Eastern that will discuss research findings related to asphalt fatigue, durability, and aging. Presenters will also explore other factors, including the binder content, binder aging, and the chemical and physical characteristics of the asphalt binders used in the asphalt pavement layers. They will discuss cover asphalt binder aging during mixture production and the service life of the pavement. Changes to the current performance-graded asphalt binder specifications, tests, and practices may address issues related to the premature loss of asphalt pavement durability in the form of cracking and raveling. Active research shows that identifying, characterizing, and effectively specifying the properties may specify a binder that can improve the fatigue properties of the mixture.

This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Technical Committee on Binders for Flexible Pavement. It also features research from NCHRP Research Report 967: Asphalt Binder Aging Methods to Accurately Reflect Mixture Aging.

Professional engineers (PEs) who register and attend the entire webinar as an individual will be awarded 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). TRBs webinar program awards PDH credits only to the registered individual, and not to other members of a group that view the webinar together. To be eligible for the credits, individuals must remain signed in for the entire webinar, including for any question and answer session following the presentations.
