Traffic forecasts play an important role in the planning and design of road projects, but we know little about how accurate they are. TRB will host a webinar on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 from 2:00-3:30 PM Eastern that will address these gaps, comparing forecasts and post-opening traffic counts for more than 1,200 road projects in the United States and Europe. Presenters will identify the factors in forecast accuracy. They will also demonstrate a method for estimating the uncertainty of future forecasts from data on the accuracy of past forecasts, and provide recommendations on how to improve traffic forecasting practice.

This webinar draws on research from the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Research Report 934: Traffic Forecasting Accuracy Assessment Research.

3. Access and contribute to a database for monitoring forecast accuracy
