CoinSnacks’ Crypto Gift Guide |
With the holiday’s coming up, we thought we’d do a little something different (and lighthearted). |
Below are a few crypto-focused items that as enthusiasts we would be excited to receive as gifts. If you have someone in your life interested in crypto, these could be some great options. It is worth noting that we have a preference for combining crypto and the real world as our guide reflects. |
No shitty affiliate links or biased coverage here. Just some fun things to checkout or gift to others. |
Blackbird Pass: Blackbird has recently released the Bar Blackbird SF, allowing holders to unlock a free cocktail at 10+ of San Francisco’s finest bars everyday. Owners of the pass will also get a 2,500 $FLY bonus and invites to members-only events. Buy one for yourself and gift one to a friend. We covered BlackBird in depth here. |
Helium Hotspot: Helium Hotspots allow you to become your own WiFi tower by sharing your internet connection with nearby devices. In doing so you are able to earn the network's native token as a reward. |
WeatherXM: A community powered weather network that rewards weather station owners with WXM tokens and provides accurate weather services to individuals, businesses and research organizations. We covered WeatherXM’s launch here. |
BlockClock: Track prices from exchanges, see blocks as they are published by miners, display your own balances, fiat value, and deposit QR codes on a timeless 7 E-Ink digital display. |
Start9 Private Server: Privacy and free speech are fundamental human rights and essential ingredients for a free society. But everything you do online is intermediated - your actions permissioned, your data custodied. Opt out by running a private server. |
Broken Money: Lyn Alden’s latest book explores why our financial system is failing us and how we can make it better. For other great Bitcoin books check out The Saif House. |
Bonus, super simple, gift idea: Tell your loved one to open up Coinbase account (using your referral link) and then just send over some sats. |

All Hail The Crypto Czar! |
President-elect Donal Trump continues to bolster his team with pro-crypto heads… |
His latest move? Tapping Silicon Valley insider David Sacks as the administration’s first “White House AI & Crypto Czar,” a new role poised to help US crypto companies get the regulatory clarity and banking access it’s been chasing. |
| Congrats to my bestie @DavidSacks on his new position as “White House AI & Crypto Czar” 🚀 | |

Who is David Sacks? |
A former PayPal executive and founder of VC firm Craft Ventures, Sacks has deep tech roots and investments all across web3 such as dYdX, Lightning Labs, Multicoin Capital, Fold, and River Financial. He’s a familiar face, co-hosting the popular All-In Podcast, and his new advisory role (similar to the DOGE government classification) allows him to remain active at Craft. |
What he’ll do: Sacks will liaise between the crypto industry and Washington, advise on policy, and lead a promised crypto advisory council featuring top U.S. web3 firms, exchanges, and mining companies. |
Operation Choke Point 2.0: Ending the crackdown? Sacks has signaled that dismantling Operation Choke Point 2.0 – an alleged effort by regulators to cut crypto off from banking – "needs to be looked at." |
Congress is starting to take note too. According to the Wall Street Journal |
“The recent outrage has caught the eye of Congress, where the House Financial Services and Senate Banking committees are both now asking questions about banking access.” |
|
|
Tech investor Marc Andreessen’s recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience highlighted the issue (here’s the clip), prompting numerous crypto CEOs to come forward with their own experiences of unfair account closures and denials. |
| We had no US banking for several years while one US company enjoyed a monopoly secured by its heavyweight investors. That singular bank was recently assassinated. We barely made it by focusing on Europe. @krakenfx has too many stories of clients and employees losing US banking. | Jered Kenna @JeredKenna I had a spreadsheet of banks that denied me after I founded TradeHill and I'm still banned at HSBC, BofA, Chase, Citi, Wells and others. I'd try to talk to 5-10 a day at points. @jespow Somehow made it through this and I've got a ton of respect for what he also endured. Wells… x.com/i/web/status/1…x.com/joeykrug/statu… |

Banks, still wary of volatility and fraud, might ease their stance if they receive clearer guidelines from Washington. |
Why it matters: Clearing this hurdle could finally give crypto firms stable access to bank accounts, loans, and payment rails – resolving a long-standing industry frustration. If Sacks and a pro-crypto administration follow through, the industry may at last find the stability it needs. |
