TOP OF THE AGENDA | How the stock market could help Trump | | If the deal is approved as expected, shares will start trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker DJT. Credit: Getty Images | Former US President Donald Trump has mere days left to find funds for a $464m (£365m) fraud penalty. His supporters are hoping the stock market will come to his rescue. Mr Trump could add more than $3bn to his net worth by the end of the day following a shareholder vote to merge Trump Media, the company behind the Truth Social platform, and publicly listed company Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWAC), which has been in the works since 2021. While the terms of the deal wouldn't allow Mr Trump to cash in on his shares for at least six months - unless an exception is made - his stake could be used as collateral for a loan, should a lender be willing to take on this kind of risk. Analysts have warned that DWAC investors, many of whom appear to be Mr Trump's supporters, stand to lose money in their investment.
Looming deadline: If Mr Trump wants to continue his appeal in the New York civil fraud case without the state seizing the $464m penalty from him, he must pay or secure a bond from a private company by Monday. Legal cases: Recent developments have made it less likely for Mr Trump, the Republican Party's presumptive presidential nominee, to stand trial before the November election.
Former aid: Peter Navarro, a former trade adviser to Mr Trump, began a four-month jail term for contempt of Congress in federal prison on Tuesday. | |

| Fleeing embattled border villages | | Tetiana and her mother fled Russian occupation to Ukrainian territory. Credit: BBC | Russia's attacks on Ukraine's border areas have recently escalated. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says nearly 200 bombs have been dropped on the north-eastern Sumy region this month alone. Police and emergency workers have now rescued hundreds of people from the area, moving them deeper into Ukraine and to safety. |

| | The bus delivers the evacuees to the small town of Okhtyrka, where the local authorities have turned a kindergarten and a school into a temporary shelter. It's cosy and there are psychologists working with children, with plenty of smiles and laughter. But on camp beds laid out inside a classroom, older women sit still, looking bewildered. They've lost everything they know and own. The first thing I hear as I enter the room is a plea for more help for Ukraine's soldiers. |
