| 5. It’s Just Strategy | MicroStrategy has rebranded to “Strategy,” but it’s still in the business of hoarding BTC. Right after the switch, MicroStrategy reported a $671 million Q4 loss – a figure that includes a hefty $1 billion impairment they could’ve bypassed under the new FASB rules. Expect a colossal $12.75 billion adjustment to its retained earnings next quarter. | 4. Crypto Does Real Things | Helium Mobile just launched a "Zero Plan" that offers 3GB of data, 300 texts, and 100 minutes at no cost. Free99. No strings attached either, except it's strictly B.Y.O.D. (bring your own device). Powered by user-operated hotspots that earn tokens on Solana as a reward, the network promises a decentralized alternative to big carriers. Now, will this freemium model spur enough demand to offset Helium's recent troubles (layoffs + SEC suit at parent Nova Labs)? And will this rollout get me more excited than Starlink in every iPhone? Time will tell, but there you go – a genuine real-world crypto use case. | 3. Czech Mate Part II | Czech Prez Pavel just signed off on a new law exempting all crypto held for over three years from capital gains tax. Transactions under 100,000 koruna ($4,100) are also tax-free, unlike here in the U.S., where every tiny swap is taxable. This falls on the heels of the Czech National Bank’s plan to possibly invest 5% of its reserves into BTC. Quite the crypto-friendly vibe in Prague these days – famously also known as the city where your CoinSnacks editors bought their first cup of coffee using crypto via Litecoin. Bottoms up in Zizkov tonight boys! | 2. BlackRock Expends ETF to Europe | BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, and the largest bitcoin ETF issuer, is preparing to list a bitcoin ETP in Europe. While ETPs have been allowed in Europe for some time, they’ve only managed to gather ~$17 billion among the ~160 issuers. On the other hand, American bitcoin ETFs have gathered nearly 10x as much AUM (~$114 billion). The main thing to note here is that once BlackRock and Big Daddy Fink enter the arena, it becomes a race to the lowest expense ratio among the providers. | 1. Trump's Media Co. Files for Made in America ETF | President Trump's social media company, TruthFi has taken the first steps toward launching a series of ETFs. The company has applied for trademarks for three ETFs: Bitcoin Plus ETF, Made in America ETF, & an Energy Independence ETF. | | Eric Balchunas @EricBalchunas | |
| Trump is going to launch a Bitcoin Plus ETF. Safe to say first-ever POTUS ETF issuer. What a country.. | |
