Hundreds of thousands of people marched in one of more than 600 "Families Belong Together" rallies held on June 30 in cities and towns across the country to demonstrate support for immigrants and opposition to the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" immigration policy, which has separated nearly 2,500 children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. Javier Sierra, the Sierra Club's associate communications director—himself an immigrant—was among the estimated 30,000 people attending the rally in the nation's capital. As usual, he had his camera in hand.

Check out images of this day of solidarity.

Keep the Census Fair

President Trump is trying to rig the 2020 Census by adding a question about citizenship—a move that would guarantee lower participation from immigrant communities. This could shift economic and political power away from the communities most in need, denying them federal resources and accurate representation in government. Public comments are being accepted until August 7.

Send a message now to protect the census.

Does Revitalization Lead to Gentrification?

Three centuries ago, the Los Angeles River was the centerpiece of a rich riparian ecosystem. Today, it is little more than a 50-mile-long drain encased in concrete. The river is now at the center of a heated public-works debate with real money dedicated to revitalizing the once-thriving riparian landmark. But to whose benefit?

Find out about how concerns over gentrification in Los Angeles are complicating efforts to restore the L.A. River.

A Better Deal for Democracy

The only way we can protect communities and ensure clean air and water for all is to have a functioning democracy. Ask your representative to fight for a healthy democracy by co-sponsoring this proposal.

When President Trump illegally shrank Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument last year, he claimed he was returning the land "to the people of the United States." Now a Canadian firm is staking claims to mine it for copper and cobalt—despite the fact that the monument's boundary changes are still being challenged in court. We're training activists to take on Trump and Interior Secretary Zinke this summer.
