Shoe removal has been part of the airport security experience since 2006, but passengers at select airports will now be allowed to keep their footwear on at checkpoints, a senior government official tells NBC News.

The move has not been formally announced, but the TSA said that it’s “exploring new and innovative ways to enhance the passenger experience and our strong security posture.”
