| Go behind the scenes at London Transport Museum's Acton Depot Did you know that, in west London, there's a depot that's home to more than 320,000 artefacts relating to London's transport history, including buses, tube trains and maps? It's London Transport Museum's Acton Depot and, though normally off-limits, it's opening to the public for one weekend this month.
The Electric Journeys Depot Open Days focus on how electricity has shaped London and its transport system, from the Underground’s first electric locomotives to the introduction of Oyster cards. There's a jam-packed programme of talks, tours and special displays, including a chance to try your hand at being a train driver in a Victoria line cab, climb on board a zero emission, fully electric bus, or tour the collection of 5,000+ historic transport posters.
It's a child-friendly event with a Family Zone where kids can learn how to code an electric train or make an LED light-up poster — and the London Transport Miniature Railway will be offering rides on all three days (ticketed separately, available on the day).
