An outbreak of Covid-19 has forced a high school in Leyland to close its doors for two weeks.
View email online | | | | | Feb 8, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening The latest variant of Covid-19 is clearly causing more problems than some of the other variants. Many of us will have had a sinking feeling when it was revealed that South Africa was suspending the roll out of the Oxford/Astra-Zeneca vaccination on the grounds that it did not seem to be effective. But isn’t that the vaccine we are currently giving to around 15million people after all? Before we all become too despondent, we need to remember that viruses often mutate and so vaccines need to change with them. And there is at least some protection from the worst effects of even this variant of Covid-19 from the vaccination programme we have embarked on. The Government has now announced a deal with a German company to develop vaccines against future variants of coronavirus. The partnership will allow the UK to “swiftly tweak and roll out” existing vaccines to combat new variants. So let’s not become too fed-up. For every couple of steps we move forward, there may be a step back. But we are still moving forward.
