Dear Supporter, This Saturday marks two years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Two years of horrific war. Two years of hiding in basements and bomb shelters. Two years cut off from family and friends. UNHCR’s dedicated teams have been on the ground since the beginning. We will stay and deliver for the people of Ukraine – but we can’t do it alone.
Since the war began on 24 February 2022, at least 10,000 people have been killed, and millions have been forced to flee for their lives. Two million homes have been bombed. In frontline areas such as Donetsk and Kharkiv, families are sheltering in damaged homes without water, gas or electricity. Throughout winter, they have faced freezing temperatures and snow. The constant bombardment means they are forced to spend their days in basements. Children cannot go outside, let alone attend school. Supporter, please don’t forget the people of Ukraine. Donate now to send survival essentials such as tarpaulins, thermal blankets and solar lamps to communities in urgent need.
Last month, Serhii, 57, was injured when a missile landed in the garden of his home in Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine. “I was in the house when it happened,” says Serhii. “I was shocked. I didn't understand what had just happened. I am lucky because I am alive.” With support from generous donors, Serhii received emergency supplies, counselling and legal aid, and now plans to rebuild his home. Across Ukraine, UNHCR is assisting with home repairs, distributing winter relief items such as heaters and blankets, and providing cash to help families buy food, fuel and medicine. Supporter, will you help UNHCR protect vulnerable families who have endured two years of war?
Thank you for supporting the people of Ukraine over the last two years. With no end to the war in sight, they are counting on your continued support. Yours sincerely,
Trudi Mitchell CEO
P.S. The people of Ukraine are still under attack. Please help them survive this brutal conflict - your generous donation can provide safe shelter, emergency supplies and mental health support.
