Understanding in a Carr crash

Good morning, folks. Welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Tuesday, Dec. 10. Another week, another injury. This time, Derek Carr is injured again and so let's dive into what that means for the Saints:

Season over?

The Saints only have four games left and so if Carr is placed on injured reserve, which requires to players to miss at least four games, his season would be over.

But the Saints apparently don't intend to go that route.

Interim coach Darren Rizzi left open the possibility Carr could return this season — even in time for Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders. But there's good news and bad news with Carr's injury, Rizzi said.

Ugly win

On the bright side foe New Orleans, the team got back into the win column with a 14-11 victory over the New York Giants. But for those who missed it, the game was ugly.

Our Jeff Duncan summed it up well: "The best thing I can say about the New Orleans Saints’ 14-11 win against the New York Giants on Sunday is that it's over."

As ugly as the game was, Luke Johnson did a nice job capturing Bryan Bresee's game-winning blocked field goal and explaining how the defensive tackle has turned a corner of late.

Quick hitters

Here's some more Saints news:

  • The team is losing a member of its defensive staff to a college program
  • Marshon Lattimore seems ready to make his debut for the Commanders — against the Saints, no less.
  • New Orleans added a safety to its practice squad.
  • ICYMI: Read Luke's wonderful profile of Rizzi's New Jersey roots.

Anyway, that's all for now. Thanks for reading as always, and I hope one of you appreciated the Thursday-related pun in the subject line.

Take care,

Matthew Paras
