🌅 Good morning!

"Antiques Roadshow" is coming to Utah.

The long-running PBS series is spotlighting five cities — Salt Lake City included — for its 30th season, which will air sometime in 2026, Lottie Johnson reported.

"Antiques Roadshow" has selected Red Butte Garden and Arboretum for its Salt Lake filming location.

“Marking a milestone anniversary for a TV show, our Season 30 tour is made even more special by holding Roadshow’s Salt Lake City event at Red Butte Garden and Arboretum,” executive producer Marsha Bemko said in a statement.

“Each year ‘Roadshow’ gives our fans a chance to experience culturally rich places, complete with gorgeous architecture, art and nature that provide an intriguing backdrop to capture appraisals and allow us to take viewers ‘backstage’ to see and learn about places that they might otherwise miss!”

The show will film an all-day appraisal event on June 3, and three Salt Lake City-based episodes will air next year on PBS.

Happy anniversary! University of Utah celebrates 175 years

The University of Utah is celebrating 175 years as a university.

On Feb 28, 1850, the University of Utah (chartered as the University of Deseret) was founded under the direction of Latter-day Saint prophet Brigham Young — becoming the first state university west of the Missouri River, Jason Swensen writes.

“The work of our founders is the bedrock for the student-focused teaching, innovative research, world-class healthcare and thoughtful service performed every day by our campus community,” university President Taylor Randall said in a statement.

Here are three interesting tidbits about the history of the university:

  • Deseret Alphabet Experiment: When it was still called the University of Deseret, the university produced a primer using the Deseret alphabet. This phonetic writing system was developed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to facilitate teaching English to immigrants and children.
  • History of the land: The current University of Utah campus and Research Park was formerly the Fort Douglas Reservation.
  • Medical School beginnings: During World War II, the university established its four-year medical program and became notable for hiring brilliant Jewish professors at a time when there was significant discrimination at more established programs back east. This led to a "really, really good faculty in the School of Medicine," Fred Esplin, a retired University of Utah vice president observed.

Meet the Utah kid who is president of a major East Coast pro sports franchise

One of Jake Reynolds' athletic goals was to be named Deseret News All-State as a high school athlete, Aaron Shill writes.

That goal was realized in 2002, when Reynolds — as a 5-10 senior guard at Waterford High in Sandy, Utah — was named Class 1A MVP for his skills at basketball.

Now his goal is to bring a third Stanley Cup to New Jersey, as he is the president of the National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils.

His parents still live in Utah and are Utah Hockey Club season ticket holders.

“I remind them constantly that their grandchildren’s livelihoods are dependent on how the Devils do, so the Devils still will need to remain the number one team in the house,” Reynolds said. “(Utah) can be the number two team and they can be the favorite Western Conference team, but the Devils still need to hold court there."

The Utah Hockey Club go up against the Devils tonight at 7 p.m.
