Plus, what does MAGA think of JD Vance?
Good morning! Here are today’s temperatures: ☀️ 54 – 90° in Logan ☀️ 67 – 93° in Salt Lake ☀️ 72 – 103° in St. George Artificial intelligence is here to stay, though what is meant by the term is often confusing. Most of what we consider to be AI is still very much based on algorithms, not large language models like ChatGPT. These algorithms determine what content is pushed to us and have recently come under scrutiny for boosting harmful content. “Because the algorithms are secret — the sanitized term is ‘proprietary’ — they remain behind the curtain until the occasional reveal of their utter inhumanity,” Valerie Hudson writes. | What the University of Utah president learned from touring the Paris athletes village |
|
| | PARIS — University of Utah President Taylor Randall said he was struck by the size of the athlete housing built for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. “It’s a massive village. It’s a ways out of Paris,” Randall said after a daylong tour of the new apartments sprawling across three suburbs outside Paris that will house nearly 15,000 athletes and coaches during the Olympics and Paralympic that follow for athletes with disabilities. Randall, part of the Utah delegation that traveled to the French capital for the International Olympic Committee’s July 24 decision awarding the 2034 Winter Games to the state, wanted to see the Paris athletes village firsthand since in a decade it will be the University of Utah’s turn to house Olympic competitors. Reno, Nevada — JD Vance preached Donald Trump’s America First vision in Nevada on Tuesday to thousands of MAGA faithful, who said they see the Republican vice presidential candidate as the torchbearer for a transformed Republican Party. At the rally, Vance promoted the mass deportation of migrants and said he would support policies to combat globalization, putting the needs of American workers ahead of the desires of the nation’s elites. After coming under attack by Democrats for statements he made several years ago, Vance is trying to regain his footing and to win the favor of not just Trump’s biggest fans, but Americans in swing states across the country. The voters who attended Vance’s rally Tuesday seemed ready to embrace the relatively young senator from Ohio. Read more about what Reno voters thought of Vance |
