This used to be a tea box! I first made these when I was dead broke and in a pinch to help out with a family Christmas. Someone on ThriftyFun had once posted about re-using a sugar bag for sugar cookies, which got the gears turning. So many possibilities!

Fabric is a great reusable wrapping paper solution. It is a sustainable and thrifty gift wrap choice. You have to spend a little more up front, but as long as you get most of the wrapping fabric back, you can continue to reuse it for years to come.

One winter, my mom came up to me with a twinkle in her eye and asked me to make snowflakes. It turns out, she wanted to cover the upstairs window with "frost" so that there could be more sun and privacy. It worked so well, it stayed up 'till spring, long after the snow on the ground thawed!

My mum and I sorted through a bunch of clothes and items from around the house to donate to charity. Whatever did not seem good enough for a second life went into our craft materials pile. These gnomes were made from those scraps. We used socks, shirts, and shoulder pads. It was a lot of fun!

Try this fun wrapped cardboard star ornament for your toddler/child to do! You can make other shapes to wrap, but a star would be easier. This ornament will make a nice spot on your tree!

The photo does not do this project justice, but it's an organizer that is very easy to make, uses materials you already have on hand, is very nice to look at, and best of all will help your kids keep their things in order.

My local dollar store had duct tape for 50 cents a roll so I had to get some in holiday colours to craft with, of course! They're great for decorations or sticking onto a wrapped gift. Here is how to make a simple, but cute, poinsettia plant with duct tape, paper, and a stick.

Fabric and Button Tic-Tac-Toe Game
By ShirleyE
Here's a simple little version of the popular game of tic tac toe, also known as noughts and crosses. Of course you can always play this at any time with just a pen and paper, but this pocket game is pretty and fun to carry around. I have used floral fabric.

Huichol Style Yarn or Thread Paintings
By Becky Miles
I came across this idea while trying to find art projects to teach at my daughter's school. This looked amazing. I don't think I could do this with 100 kids at once, but my kids loved it! It took us about half an hour and it was fun to see what they came up with.

Use an old, round pizza pan for the owl body. Can lids, bottle caps, and buttons make the eyes. Wooden hearts are the beak and feet.

I wanted to make a little snowman out of a child's sock. I plan to hang it on a gift later on, or on the tree. I stuffed the sock with scraps of fabric, then tied off three parts with embroidery thread. Finally, I added a bow. I also turned another plush ornament, which was not a snowman, into a snowman.

I am constantly finding old leather belts at thrift shops for next to nothing. Leather cuff bracelets are pretty popular right now, but not so cheap. I decided to make my own for a less than a dollar. No special crafting skills required, you can make around 5 bracelets per belt.

Clearance decorations from one holiday are a wonderful inexpensive craft supply option for others. Recently I purchased plastic candy canes after Christmas. When two candy canes are placed together with their mirrored sides facing, the shape becomes a heart.

I had a corner of my garden that needed some color this spring. I saw some garden totems made of glass, but I wanted something with more color.

Displaying Children's Plastic Stained Glass Crafts
By Anna S.
Children's stained glass plastic crafts look good when hung on lamps. I need to adjust the string on these crafts, but they have given new life to an old, old lamp we have in the dining room. I like how they shine!

I made this purse from drapery samples. Using a basic pattern from a sewing pattern book, I cut out and interfaced a tote bag. I also cut the lining at the same time.

Here is a good idea for those "old aluminum trays", you might have lying around. I spray painted them, rubbed on "Treasure Gold" metallic finish.

Recycling Furniture Cushions to Go With Your Decor
By Lee
This is my current decorating project at my home. I recently inherited some antique wicker chairs from my parents. The chairs have been placed on the front porch of my home. However, the fabric for the chairs was totally not my taste.

Christmas Fabrics for Curtains
By Christine
After Christmas sales are a great time to buy festive winter fabrics to make simple square curtains. Use fabric glue, fold the edges over. Fold the top edge over again leaving room for a bamboo pole or twigs to thread through to hang curtains. I just hung the pole on top of the old curtain rod.

This Week's QuestionsBobbin Thread Loops Can Be Seen from Top of ItemI'm sewing on many different items and my white bobbin thread is showing onto my color thread on my item.Feed Dogs Not Advancing FabricI have a New Home sewing machine model 672. It will not advance the material. I can sew by doing it by hand. The saw tooth advancing plate feels dull. I wonder if it should have sharper edges? Being a mechanical engineer, I looked over the advancing mechanism and it appears to be fine. I cannot find any wear on any other part.Toyota Bobbin Shuttle Not TurningI have a Toyota RS2000 sewing machine. The bobbin shuttle is not turning when sewing or when turning the handle manually. I have taken it apart and cleared everything out and adjusted the timing, but it still does not work. I can manually turn the mechanism and this turns freely. But I need to finish my dress for New Year so any ideas how to get this working would be greatly appreciated.Manual for a Universal KAT Sewing MachineSinger Fashionmate 7256 Needle Won't Stay in Center PositionI recently found a Singer Fashionmate 7256 at a thrift store brand new for $20. All I thought I needed was a pressure foot. OK let's sew. It worked for a little while then the needle decided it didn't want to stay in the middle. Now it is to the left. I can push it, but it flings right back.Manual for a CS 6000i Brother Sewing MachineIs there a service manual for a CS 6000i Brother sewing machine?ThriftyFun Contests! This newsletter is powered by you!
