Get ready to raise your paddle and take home

something truly extraordinary!

The live auction is going to be one of the highlights of Saturday's Close to Home Gala. Cape Fear’s own Ray Kennedy and Michelle Braxton will be

our amazing auction hosts.

In addition to incredible art, including by London-based artist Selena Beaudry, and jewelry from Cape Fear Jewelry & Antiques, Saturday's live auction will feature several one-of-a-kind experiences.

Bid on a four course dinner for six with Boundless creator and multi-talented artist Stephen Hayes. Raise your paddle for a four course dinner for six with American artist Thomas Sayre served in the Hughes Wing surround by his incredible artwork. Bid on a one-of-a-kind exclusive design collaboration with Raleigh Denim's (and Thomas Sayre collaborator) Victor Lytvinenko. The winner gets to create a custom piece of clothing to wear or display!

Additional auction items include trips, jewelry, and more – all while supporting the work CAM does in our region. It’s a night you won’t want to miss that supports the vital role CAM plays in preserving, showcasing, and promoting art and culture in our region through exhibitions, programs, and outreach to our community.

ON VIEW

Thomas Sayre: Four Walls

Thomas Sayre: Four Walls features new and never exhibited works by American artist Thomas Sayre (American, b. 1950). Each of the four large-scale pieces installed in Cameron Art Museum’s Hughes Wing engage the belief systems and symbols that underpin the ideals of church, nation, and creation. Made of materials that include tar, smoke, fabric gowns, gunshots, welding material, earth and fire, these works invite visitors to draw close and experience the messiness of making, and by analogy, to bear witness to the ways that life invades, entangles, and tarnishes us. Flying School (Ecole d’aviation)

Welcome the return of Diane Landry’s (Canadian, b. 1958) signature work Flying School (Ecole d’aviation), 2000. Its multi-colored umbrellas, attached to rods at different heights, fold and unfold intermittently, like a person inhaling and exhaling. Motor-driven accordions lie at each of the umbrella bases. Their silhouettes cast by the halogen lighting are projected upward on the ceiling, resembling flowers opening and closing. The magical umbrella accordions are a hybrid of light and sound, infused with elements of sculpture, musical craftsmanship, and electronics.
