Thomas Sayre: Four Walls
Thomas Sayre: Four Walls features new and never exhibited works by American artist Thomas Sayre (American, b. 1950). Each of the four large-scale pieces installed in Cameron Art Museum’s Hughes Wing engage the belief systems and symbols that underpin the ideals of church, nation, and creation. Made of materials that include tar, smoke, fabric gowns, gunshots, welding material, earth and fire, these works invite visitors to draw close and experience the messiness of making, and by analogy, to bear witness to the ways that life invades, entangles, and tarnishes us. | Flying School (Ecole d’aviation)
Welcome the return of Diane Landry’s (Canadian, b. 1958) signature work Flying School (Ecole d’aviation), 2000. Its multi-colored umbrellas, attached to rods at different heights, fold and unfold intermittently, like a person inhaling and exhaling. Motor-driven accordions lie at each of the umbrella bases. Their silhouettes cast by the halogen lighting are projected upward on the ceiling, resembling flowers opening and closing. The magical umbrella accordions are a hybrid of light and sound, infused with elements of sculpture, musical craftsmanship, and electronics. Learn More |

PAINTING POWERFULLY AND STRONG DRAWING Instructor: Jeri Greenberg |
All great paintings start with strong drawings first. In this class we will use pastels, pastel pencils and water based media to ENHANCE our strong drawings, which are the BONES of any painting. Using color, values of black and white and grey, and monotones, we can take the simplest drawing and enhance it all the way to finished painting ready to be framed and hung on the wall.
