It looks like two key starters, right tackle Emory Jones and defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo, will probably miss LSU's game Saturday against Army in Tiger Stadium (6:30 p.m., SEC Network). In many cases, this would set off alarm bells among the LSU faithful, with Jones nursing an ankle injury and Wingo some sort of lower body issue. But frankly, being that it's Army, which is a 30-point underdog to the No. 19-ranked Tigers (ESPN analytics give LSU nearly a 97% chance of winning), it's actually probably the best time to rest them. Both can continue to heal up during the Tigers' open date next week in hopes they can be fully ready to roll when LSU goes to Alabama on Nov. 4 for a game with all the usual SEC West title implications. With or without Wingo, the Tigers will continue to show the defensive improvement they've been making since the second half of the Missouri game. At least that's what it looks like. Do the numbers bear out true improvement? Wilson Alexander is here to crunch the numbers. LSU coach Brian Kelly said Monday that the Tigers can't afford to overlook Army on Saturday. He has to say that, but we can look ahead as LSU has again positioned itself to be playing for some significant stuff in November. Before he heads off to Birmingham for SEC basketball media days, Sheldon Mickles stops by to give us his latest SEC football power ratings. LSU women's basketball holds its annual welcome back event at the PMAC on Tuesday night. We've got all the details right here. Monday we also heard from LSU coach Jay Clark and gymnast Aleah Finnegan with a look at the fall and ahead to the 2024 season. Finnegan of course also talked about her performance in the world championships two weeks ago that qualified her for the 2024 Paris Olympics representing The Philippines. We've got odds, TV info and other details on Army's first-ever game in Tiger Stadium (the teams only met once in 1931 at West Point). Finally, Wilson is preparing his weekly LSU football mailbag feature and he wants your questions. Please submit by noon Tuesday by clicking on the link here. Thanks for reading and subscribing to our daily LSU newsletter. If you had a mailbag it would be full of our praises for you. And probably something about timeshares. Scott Rabalais |
