A Message From the Editor

Good morning. The league tables tracking M&A activity for the first half of the year are in, and in several jurisdictions, U.S.-based firms dominate the rankings. In the U.K., only two of the top 10 ranked firms were U.K.-headquartered: Freshfields and A&O Shearman. The rest were U.S. firms. Among deals in the Asia Pacific, the top five firms, ranked by deal value, were mostly international firms, even though nine of the 12 largest M&A transactions in the region, not including Japan, were domestic Chinese deals. Globally, the top five firms based on deal value were also predominantly U.S. firms, including Latham, Wachtell, Kirkland, and Paul Weiss. But Freshfields also made the list, coming in at No. 4. For those of you marking the U.S. holiday, have a nice Fourth of July.

– Lisa Shuchman, Executive Editor
