After playing a key role in overhauling the tax code, Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, announced he will retire when his term ends this year. Hatch, 83, is the most senior Republican in the Senate, and his departure may open the door for former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney to run for his seat. Romney has been a vocal critic of President Trump, and Trump had urged Hatch to run for reelection.
