| | Executive Director's Message | | COVID-19 will hasten change to new models of care | | As we look toward to the next phase in our response to COVID-19, I have been reflecting on the importance of the courage to take risks as a leadership attribute. We can all think of a time in our lives when we have hesitated, uncertain of the future, yet by moving forward we arrive at our destination wiser and more resilient. The past few weeks have been especially challenging for those directly involved in patient care... |

| | Strive with less stress | | Who do you think you are? Overcoming imposter syndrome | | Imposter syndrome is a term used to describe the feelings of being a fraud or not up to the task. It is common in life to occasionally feel as though we are out of our depth. This can be a good thing and focuses our attention on learning and the productive ways that we can do better in the future. But imposter syndrome can present a roadblock to a bright career and in a workplace it may mean that some of the best ideas never see the light of day.

| | Nurses fast-track research skills with innovative educational program | | VCCC Nurse-led Research Hub Partnership Post Program | | The VCCC Nurse-led Research Hub provides a learning environment where nurses have protected time to develop their research skills. This year, the Partnership Post Program was interrupted by the pandemic – requiring adaptation to new ways of communicating. “We really broke research down to the bare bones,” said Jessica Demajo from St Vincent’s Hospital. Pheobe Robertson, Palliative Care Nurse at Austin Health, Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre agreed, “I so loved this course. I would begin it again tomorrow.”

| | Dr Vanessa Siva Kumar, Genomics Curation Lead, Monash Health | | MPCCC Tech Talk: Strategies and challenges in clinical data curation September 18, 1.00pm - 2.00pm | | Genomic testing has been integral to progress in precision medicine in recent years. The increasing affordability and advancement of genomic sequencing technologies have driven therapeutic approaches based on genetic variants and specific biomarkers, particularly in oncology. Large-scale datasets generated from next-generation sequencing require the application of various strategies to enable identification of potential clinical targets. The approach is evidence-driven, with the aim of providing a comprehensive assessment of tumour markers allowing improved therapy selection and enhanced patient care. This talk will focus on the principles in the analysis and interpretation of genomic variants, with an overview of the challenges in delivering this aim. |
