Students in Psychology 370: Abnormal Psychology will be there to bus your tables as they complete part of a service learning project focused on understanding suicide and mental health.

Archuleta to speak on ‘Choosing to Participate’ at museum Thursday Nick Archuleta, VCSU alumnus and president of North Dakota United, will present “Choosing to Participate: Social Justice Is Not a Spectator Sport” on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Barnes County Museum, 315 Central Avenue North, in Valley City.
Archuleta will speak on how individuals can step up within their community to promote social justice and combat racism.
His talk will be supported by posters, provided by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, that explore the history and impact of racism and prejudice in our country, and encourage viewers to consider the consequences of everyday choices and to make a difference in their own communities.
A graduate of Valley City High School, Archuleta holds a bachelor’s degree from Valley City State University and a master’s degree from the University of North Dakota. He has served as president of North Dakota United since the 2013 merger of the North Dakota Education Association and North Dakota Public Employees Association.
Sponsored by the community organization “What In The World Is Going On?,” the presentation kicks off season 21 of the Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series. The event is open to the public free of charge. Valley City community Out of the Darkness Walk to be held Sunday Join us on Sunday, Sept. 22, on the track at Lokken Stadium for this year’s community Out of the Darkness Walk to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m., the opening ceremony starts at 3 p.m. and the event will end with a healing ceremony at 4 p.m. Please come to honor those you know — and to support our many community members — who have been affected by suicide.
A huge thank you to our Sexuality and Gender Alliance Club, Human Services & Psychology Club, and students in Kelsie Carter’s Psychology 370: Abnormal Psychology course for all of the help they are providing in making this event happen and to VCSU for sponsoring the event again this year!

Celebrate fall equinox at Medicine Wheel Park Celebrate the fall equinox at Medicine Wheel Park on Monday evening, Sept. 23.
The Buffalo River Native American Singers and Dancers will perform at 7 p.m. Following the performance, telescopes will be available for a star party after twilight. Faculty and Staff Art Exhibition reception to be held Sept. 24 An artists reception for the Faculty and Staff Biannual Art Exhibition will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 4-5:30 p.m. in the McCarthy Gallery.
The exhibition, which opened Sept. 9, will run through Oct. 4. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The exhibition is open to the public free of charge. VanHorn, Reule publish in communication journal Shannon VanHorn, Ph.D., and Jonna Reule, Ph.D. — along with colleagues from Delaware Community College, Williston State College, Gonzaga University, and Sinclair Community College — published an article in volume 38 of “Communication Research Trends.” Their extended article, “Exploring Active Learning Theories, Practices, and Contexts,” provides context to the history of active learning, definitions, examples, assessments, and implications of active learning for online modalities. Saturday: VCSU 67, Minnesota-Morris 7
The Viking football team rolled to a 67-7 victory over Minnesota-Morris on Saturday night. VCSU is now 2-1 overall. The Vikings have a bye week before starting conference play Sept. 28 against Dakota State University during VCSU’s Homecoming Week.
Volleyball
Tuesday: VCSU 3, Concordia-Moorhead 2
The VCSU volleyball team defeated Concordia-Moorhead in five sets on Tuesday night, improving their overall record to 4-6 this season. The Vikings begin conference play with home matches Friday and Saturday night.
Baseball

Saturday: VCSU 5, Viterbo 1; VCSU 6, Viterbo 3
Sunday: Viterbo 9, VCSU 1; Viterbo 5, VCSU 4
Viking baseball started its fall season this week, posting a 2-3 record to start the season. The Vikings are back in action Wednesday night with a road game at Mayville State University.
Golf
