Corn Prices Boosted by USDA Report Reflecting Robust Exports, Ethanol’s Rapid Recovery from COVID-19
 
USDA painted an optimistic picture for corn in Thursday’s WASDE report. The agency reduced beginning and ending corn stocks due to increased ethanol use and exports. Those expectations were more than what the trade expected leading up to the report. For the 2021/2022 soybean crop, USDA showed higher beginning and ending stocks and forecasted a lower crush for old crop and higher soybean meal imports.

What's the most pressing issue for pork producers right now? Line speeds. On July 1, a Federal Court ruling is set to go into effect that slows line speed in six plants to 1,106 animals per hour. Neil Dierks, CEO of NPPC, says studies have found the reduction in line speed won't improve worker safety like proponents claim. Ultimatley, he says, it will be smaller producers impacted most if the reduction in line speed stands.
