Hi Voornaam

It seems that lately at every opportunity the senior management of Ericsson, including the Swedish company's CEO Borje Ekholm, have gone into bat for their fiercest rival on the world stage of telecoms equipment supply Huawei. In the latest salvo Ekholm has criticised his own government for joining the US and other countries and imposing a ban against the Chinese telco's involvement in Sweden's 5G rollout. The question is why is a company like Ericsson publicly offering moral and vocal support for its most serious competitor? We offer an answer that has nothing to do with the rhetoric Ericsson is voicing.

As for the 5G market, the future is looking very rosy to the tune of $13.1 trillion and 22.8 million jobs, according to a new forecast.

Meanwhile in the US, Silicon Valley cybersecurity and firewall specialist Palo Alto Networks has unveiled what it claims is the industry's first 5G-native security solution.

Ericsson's Nordic rival Nokia has announced what the company claims is the world’s first 25 Gbps symmetrical PON (passive optical network) fibre broadband solution.

China Telecom claims it has launched what it says is the world’s largest 5G standalone (SA) network.

We have a lot of stories about phones in today's edition, which is very timely because a new report sees demand for 5G phones increasing next year.

Finally, if happen to be paying through the nose for a top tier fixed line connection delivered via HFC on Australia's NBN, check out our story from a slightly tipsy journalist who attended an online wine and cheese cionference staged by Cisco.

There are plenty more stories in today's edition and of course an order of magnitude more on wirefreez.com.

Best regards
