Dear John, In an early biography, it is written that “Clare became acquainted with the new way of life of St. Francis, who encouraged her to break with the world and enter upon a life of complete dedication to Christ.” With a willing heart, Clare abandoned her earthly riches for a life of poverty and religious fervor. In this century, it might seem unimaginable to forgo all comfort for cloistered piety, but Clare and her sisters showed that it could be done.
